Principal's Message
Buccaneer Family:
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2010-2011 school year at South Dade Senior High School. I trust that you have had a restful and relaxing summer break and are returning to school with a renewed commitment to your education. As we near the Opening of School, there are a few very important guidelines and procedures you need to be very familiar with whether you are a new or returning Buccaneer.
• ATTENDANCE: Students must be in school every day and should arrive to school before 7:20 a.m. so that they are seated in class by 7:20 a.m. Additionally, students are expected to arrive on–time to all classes
• SCHOOL UNIFORM: The school uniform consists of a royal blue, black or white collared uniform shirt , black or khaki pants or shorts, or blue or black jeans (plain without holes or writing). The only writing allowed on the shirt is the school logo located in the upper left corner. The uniform must not be altered in any way and the pants or shorts must be worn above the hips with a belt. Any jackets, sweaters, etc. must also be royal blue, black or white and again, only the school logo on the upper left corner is permitted. HOODED SHIRTS OF ANY KIND ARE NOT PERMITTED. In addition, students are not allowed to wear or display any of the following items: hats, gloves, bandannas, “scully” caps, scarves, sunglasses or any other head covering.
• ELECTRONIC DEVICES: including iPods, cell phones, etc. are not to be displayed or used during the school day. Students caught with any of these items will have the item confiscated and a parent must make an appointment with the appropriate administrator to retrieve it. If the parent cannot come in, then the item will be kept for 5 days before it will be returned to the student. Any student who repeatedly violates the above rules will be disciplined accordingly. The school is NOT responsible for any confiscated, lost, stolen or misplaced electronic device.
• SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Students will receive their school supply lists the first day of class.
• LOCKERS: are only available for students enrolled in a physical education, music or dance class.
It is imperative that everyone understand these measures are in place to ensure the safety of each individual who enters our building and we expect everyone to cooperate fully with the very important procedures listed above. If you have any questions or need further information, please either visit our website or contact your child's counselor or assistant principal.
On behalf of the faculty and staff of SDSHS, I thank you in advance for working together with us as we continue to build a safe school environment which in turn will allow us to emphasize teaching and learning.
Together we can make a world of difference!
Respectfully yours,
Ms. Hidalgo
Principal
